A little bit of Trivia on the origin of the name of our surgery.

History of the Greensand Ridge

The Greensand Ridge was formed about 125 million years ago by layers of sand, clay and chalk being deposited in a shallow sea. Over time these deposits hardened to form the sandstone. Geological movement caused the layers to buckle and fold creating the ridge which is still present today. Retreating glaciers from the last Ice Age, about 12,000 years ago, scoured the ground creating melt-water valleys. Some of these 'valleys' are now dry, but others, such as the Ivel valley at Sandy, allow rivers to pass through the Ridge, giving us the landscape we enjoy today

From Leighton Buzzard to Gamlingay, many historic buildings were built from locally quarried sandstone, such as Northill Church. The sandstone has an iron bearing mineral within the stone that gives some of the rock a greenish tint.

The ridge is dominated by woodland, both ancient and modern; with just a few areas of natural heathland remaining. Some of the nature associated with these habitats includes heather, gorse, common lizard and nightjar on the heaths; and bluebells, woodpeckers, buzzard, and of course, the muntjac deer in the woodlands.

Late evening surgery

Thank you to all the patients who took part in this
questionnaire.  Some very positive remarks were given and the majority of you would like to have a late surgery once a week.

Again the practice was given the “thumbs up” for all the services provided and for the excellence of our the staff. All your comments were duly noted and it was a pleasure talking with you all.

Thank you for your time and co-operation. Anne
