Infection Control Statement

Purpose

This is annual statement will be generated each year in May in accordance with the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance.
This is relevant to all employees, visitors and contractors – the infection control Policy must be adhered to.

Commitment of the Practice

All staff within the Greensand Surgery are committed to minimising the risk of infection and ensuring patient safety.

Infection prevention and Control Lead

Greensand Surgery has one infection control lead – Jeanette Hutchins
The IPC Lead is supported by the Practice Manager – Dawn Moore
The IPC lead is supported by the Lead GP – Dr Kavita Kapoor
The Lead Nuse attended the yearly BLMK Infection control update as well as undertaking the Blue stream e-learning module.
Information is shared in Clinical meetings, staff meetings and nurse meetings.
The Lead Manager and GP regularly attend/undertake training courses to keep up to date on the topic.

Significant events

Significant events are investigated in detail in order to identify what can be learnt and changed which will lead to future improvements. Significant events are discussed regularly at relevant meetings.

Risk Assessments

Risk Assessments are carried out by NHS Property including fire and Legionella’s. Greensand Surgery undertakes monthly fire checks and a yearly work place risk assessment for health and safety.

Infection control Audits

Infection control audits are run on an annual basis. Greensand surgery abides by the BLMK infection control policies.
• All staff complete IPC training as part of their induction and ongoing on e-learning.
• IPC issues are raised at appropriate meetings.
• All polices are reviewed regularly and are available to staff on the shared drive.

Immunisations

All staff are offered Hep B immunisation along with other occupational health vaccines relevant to their role i.e MMR, influenza and Covid vaccinations. We participate in the National Immunisation programmes/campaigns for patients and can offer vaccines within the surgery or as Home visits as required.

Other examples

Cleaning specifications
Cleaning is performed by cleaners from a company employed by NHS property. They follow NHS cleaning specifications with regards to infection control and cleaning standards.
The cleaning supervisor along with NHS property carry out cleaning audits to ensure a good standard is maintained.

Toys

Greensand Surgery have no toys policy in waiting rooms to promote good infection control.
